KangaRoussane

Today's wine comes to us from the famous Barossa Valley in South Australia. In the late 1980's David Powell and his wife found their calling tending vines throughout the Barossa and Eden Valley. In the winters, they would travel to the Northern Hemisphere to partake in France's Rhone Valley harvest. It was there they discovered the incredible potential of Rhone's classic grapes in their native Barossa. Not long after they had their son, Callum, Powell & Son was officially born.

Today's wine is the 2017 Barossa Valley Rousanne Marsanne. The crown jewel (in my opinion) of Rhone white wines (sorry Viognier) from Australia's fine wine epicenter. The Roussanne is fermented and aged in stainless steel to maintain acidity and fruit florals. The Marsanne is barrel fermented, lees stirred, undergoes malolactic fermentation, and is matured in French oak. In the glass you'll find a rich, gold, fatty wine with notes of candied meyer lemon, dried apricot, beeswax, baked quince, mandarin orange peel, chamomile, and white meadow flowers. The palate is unctuous with low-ish acidity and high alcohol. This wine has been described as hedonistic luxury in a glass. I couldn't agree more. Serve lightly chilled with a nice bouillabaisse.
