Didier Dagueneau was larger than life. Internationally renowned motorcycle racer, dog sled driver, and stalwart of the French winemaking scene.
In 2008, at the age of 52, Didier died in an ultralight plane crash. While his loss rocked the wine world to its core, his legacy did not die with him. His two children, Louis-Benjamin and Charlotte, have carried on the tradition of making benchmark Sauvignon Blanc on the family estate.
I say benchmark because the Dagueneau family has long since been associated with the finest expression of Sauvignon Blanc on planet earth. The 2016 Blanc Fumé de Pouilly is no exception. In the glass you’ll find a pale white gold wine with stunning clarity. The wine is dry with a nose and palate that screams luxury Pouilly Fumé with notes of white grapefruit, passion fruit, whipped vanilla cream, key lime, lemon meringue, sugar snap pea, and the ever telling hint of smokey gun flint. Restrained acid, velvety mouthfeel, and a lingering, haunting finish. Didier lives on in every sip.
